Texas Vel-Hi is the way to go!!!!
Howdy and Welcome to our website.
This is dedicated to Velma Hiser of the original Vel-Hi Kennel of Grinnel, Iowa and All the
other old tyme great boxer kennels.
Texas Velhi consist of 2 Kennels:
The Original Vel-Hi Kennel was in Grinnel, Iowa. Founded / owned / operated by Velma Hiser in or around 1947. She
was handler / then in later years a judge. She bred her boxers to some outstanding greats from other kennels and in
turn had her own. She had this kennel of awesome boxers for over 60 years. She was an awesome lady.
In 1985 she sent her gt. neice one of her boxers, named Vel-Hi's Chocolate Chip. He started
the 1st Vel-Hi kennel in Texas. In 1987 I met and became fast friends with Lynda and fell in love with Chip and in 1991 got
my first boxer from him, became a partner with Lynda and started Texas Vel-Hi Boxer Kennel. So here we are:
Lynda Miller's Vel-Hi's Texas Connection Kennel, is located nw of Ft. Worth, in Azle, Texas. Her email
address is lmyrth@aol.com or (817) 715-2505
Mine, Kathi Schu has the second and ONLY other Vel-Hi kennel, called Texas Vel-Hi Kennel. I am located
west of San Antonio. I can be contacted at txbxrk@yahoo.com or (830)329-7022 or 830-866-3894.
Our boxers are direct decendants of Velma's Vel-Hi Kennel, and there are of numerous champions
in this linage.
These boxers are muscular, strong built, self-assured, exhuberant, curious, loving, extremely
intelligent. A jokster, with a zest for life, people oriented, have a special bonding with children, and have a don't worry-be-happy
attitude.
They ALL want to be with you, no matter where-who-what-when-or how you do it, as long as they are
there.
They BORE very easily, so PLEASE pay attention to them; be patient; loving; caring; spend time
with them; talk to them; hug them; have fun ;give them things to do; and when you are not there, leave them toys, a wading
pool, balls,music.
NEVER ignore them - or push them out of your life. it breaks their heart.
In the end, it is well worth the effort if you stick with them thru their puppyhood clownish ways. BOXERS
RULE OTHERS DROOL !!!!
If your boxer chases flies. Or gives those heavy sighs.Soulful eyes to view you sadly. Before kidney beaning madlyMaybe
jumps high in the air Sleep and snore without a care With a faith that is unerringDespite what is occuring
If he tries to swim but sinks. If he's silly but, still thinks
If he loves you like a child. And is sometimes just as wild
There's a story to be told. Of boxers young, of boxers old And it's here they get unfurled
Do You Know... What a Puppy is Not?
by Velma Hiser
A puppy is not a toy. A puppy is a living being who has a need for love and
proper care for the rest of his life-- not just sufficient rest. He or she needs to be fed often when young. And a young puppy
is especially vulnerable to broken bones and other injuries from careless treatment.
A puppy is not a teaching aid. A puppy should not be obtained to instill a
sense of responsibility in children. It is unfair to place an animal's entire well-being in he hands of children. Feeding,
grooming, housekeeping and discipline training of an animalshould be the principal responsibilities of adults. Responsibility
training of children is better left for household tasks, where a helpless animal's needs are not at stake.
A puppy is not cheap. The purchase price or adoption fee for a pet is a mere
pittance compared to the cost of veterinary care for routine and emergency treatment over the dog's lifetime, as well as licensing
fees and damages to personal property which are bound to occur.
A puppy is not a spur-of-the-moment commitment. Animal shelters are overrun
with dogs who were acquired for the wrong reasons or without sufficient investigation and personal commitment.
A puppy is not self-cleaning. Dogs can neither groom themselves nor clean
up after themselves (accidents, shedding), and therefore can impose an additional workload in a household.
A puppy is not an adult dog. Having neither the physical nor mental abilities
of an adult dog, a puppy cannot wait long periods of time before relieving himself, nor differentiate between what is a toy
and what is not; nor can he or she distinguish between digestible and dangerous objects. Puppies require patience, understanding,
and supervision, just as with human infants and young children. A puppy doesn't mature int an adult for at least two years.
If you work and don't have the time for training and play, get an older dog.
A puppy is not forever. But they need your love and care forever. Be sure
you understand the lifelong commitment involved in succumbing to the charms of a cute, cuddly little puppy.
